From the Ziz Valley

Here is a cute picture of Dad with of few of the kids who live around Abdel's house. The other picture is Dad in some old kasbah ruins in the Ziz.

Dad and his friends

Dad made it into many Moroccan households on his trip. Here is with Abdel Karim's inlaws. They are gathered around a small grill smoking out the kitchen with lamb kabobs. Dad also ate liver wrapped in fat, as well as all other types of Moroccan cuisine.

Choker

I had to get a picture of my pal Choker. He made it all the way down to the desert and back and only complained once as we drove down a bumpy dirt road out to the sand dunes. Here is near the desert town of Rissani near the dunes.

Dad and Abdel Karim

In this picture Dad is standing over the Ziz River valley with my friend Abdel Karim. Abdel grows dates down in the valley and helps out with tourists who come through "from time to time" (as he says all the time;) Abdel showed us around the Valley and also walked around Errachidea with us for an evening.

Desert

Here are several desert pictures from our trip. The black tents in the one photo are where we stayed.

In the Desert

Dad and I went down to Merzouga to Erg Chebbi, sand dunes on the edge of the Sahara. The dunes get up to about 500 feet high and are a challenge to hike up. We spent a night in the desert, riding camels in and out with several other tourists. It was lovely! Here is a video of Dad bodysurfing, or something like that.

Dad in Fes

My Dad finally made it to Morocco, after some challenges in Tangier. We had a great day touring the Fes medina. Here are several pictures from Fes. The medina is over a thousand years old with things being done the same way for years and years.

Rabat medina

These two pictures are from the Rabat medina. The beautiful blue painted narrow streets are still inhabited by many people. THe main streets are full of shopping booths and food stalls. The goat heads are quite normal. People eat them, brains, tongue, cheeks, eyes, and all.

Thanksgiving and Teacher Retreat

The above pictures are from Thanksgiving and our teacher retreat in Mohammadia (north of Casablanca). We had some fun frisbee throwing on the beach (Gwen, Laura, Erica, and Grace). During the retreat I had a great time rolling couscous balls and teaching my friends how as well. You should all try it! Thanksgiving was great. As you can see in the picture we had some Moroccan friends and American friends.
